Policies and practices that consider livable wages, flexible working hours, and remote work, contribute to create a culture of equity and wellness and can also prevent vicarious trauma and high turnover, as they take into account the challenges of the times we are living, the humanity of those we serve, and our own complex lives. In the absence of wellness and equity practices, burnt out, the loss of expertise, the constant re-organizing, and the cost of hiring and training staff, are only some of the consequences. The most damage is done to individuals that were once passionate and committed, and leave organizations feeling hurt and discouraged.
