Support Black and LGBTQ+ Refugees, Women, and Children in Ukraine

Post

As we witness the violence enacted toward the people of Ukraine, we should acknowledge that gender-based violence is a weapon of war, and 70% of women will experience it in the midst of a conflict. Support networks that normally protect against sexual violence, domestic violence, and human trafficking struggle to connect and support victims/survivors, and often collapse trying to do so.

We’ve also seen the pernicious impacts of racism and homophobia on Black and LGBTQ+ persons trying to flee Ukraine. Recognizing the injustice of being abandoned during this humanitarian crisis, three Black women in the UK— Tokunbo Koiki, Patricia Daley and Korrine Sky—united to raise funds for their safe passage. Thanks to their efforts, Red Cross buses are providing transportation out of the country. In the link our bio, you can contribute to Black Women For Black Lives’ GoFundMe, the International Rescue Committee’s efforts to help women and children, and Outright LGBTIQ’s Ukraine Emergency Fund.
