I am writing to express my strong commitment to serving as a board member for a domestic violence organization. My deep empathy for individuals affected by domestic violence drives my desire to support vulnerable populations, ensuring they receive the resources necessary for safety and empowerment. I believe in breaking the cycles of abuse through education, intervention, and survivor support programs, thereby preventing future violence and promoting equity for marginalized groups. My extensive knowledge in organizational leadership will enhance the governance and sustainability of the organization. Furthermore, I aspire to engage with fellow board members to develop collaborative solutions and utilize my platform to raise awareness and challenge harmful societal norms.

My values align with the principles of domestic violence advocacy in several meaningful ways. For instance, I prioritize empathy, community support, and social justice, these values resonate with the advocacy for social change and my commitment to preventing domestic violence. By fostering awareness and empowering communities, I contribute to a shared goal of creating a safe environment for all individuals. Additionally, I value collaboration, which aligns with the efforts to bring together organizations and advocates to address domestic violence
effectively. Ultimately, reflecting on my core beliefs and how they intersect with these advocacy efforts can illuminate the strong connection between my values and the mission to combat domestic violence. This work reflects who I am and what I stand for. It allows me to fight for the kind of world I want to see. I believe in getting to the root causes. This isn’t just about helping people survive; it’s about changing the systems that allow abuse to continue, and saving lives.

Describe your participation in the Partnership’s regional networks, policy committees, peer learning circles and other components of our Membership community.

As an active member of the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (CPEDV), I have engaged in various aspects of our statewide membership community. Through participation in regional networks, I have fostered strong, collaborative relationships with advocates and organizations dedicated to addressing local challenges. My contributions to policy committees have supported collective advocacy efforts that center on survivors, aiming to influence meaningful legislative
change. Additionally, peer learning circles have provided opportunities for sharing experiences and learning from the diverse insights of others in the movement, emphasizing trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices. My involvement with CPEDV has been both personally and professionally fulfilling, allowing me to remain connected to the evolving needs of survivors while contributing to the Partnership’s vision of a violence-free California.

Describe your skills, experience or interests that can benefit, strengthen or increase capacity of the Board.

I am committed to advancing our mission by leveraging my strategic thinking, collaborative leadership, and a strong foundation in equity and survivor-centered advocacy. My experience with nonprofit boards equips me to guide mission-driven strategies and foster inclusive decision-making. I aim to influence equitable public policy and engage communities impacted by domestic violence, prioritizing the voices of historically marginalized populations. Furthermore, my fundraising abilities will help sustain our initiatives, while my passion for learning fosters collaboration within our board. Together, we can create impactful change with integrity and a bold vision.

What does leadership mean to you? How do you demonstrate leadership?

Leadership is fundamentally about service, integrity, and inspiring collective action. It involves active listening, valuing diverse voices, and making decisions collaboratively. True leaders model accountability, prioritize transparency, and uplift others. By centering compassion in their work, they connect strategy with purpose, challenge injustice, and recognize that meaningful change requires collective effort. This approach not only fosters an inclusive environment but also empowers individuals to realize their potential.

Describe how your relationships can enhance the work of the Partnership and the Board (for example, with policy-makers, media outlets, culturally specific communities, and the broader community). Tell us how you intend to cultivate those relationships on behalf of the Partnership.

My unwavering commitment is to enhance community engagement through active participation in local events and initiatives. By attending gatherings hosted by culturally specific organizations and grassroots campaigns, I aim to strengthen connections and amplify community voices in policy discussions. Moreover, I will collaborate with funders and policymakers to foster partnerships that resonate with the needs of our communities. I believe that through genuine relationship-building and shared vision, we can ensure the California Partnership remains relevant and trusted by those we serve. Thank you for your continued support.
