Preventionists and youth leaders across California are planning exciting Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month campaigns in 2020. If you’re involved in the planning process, you may have wondered how you can further deepen your community partnerships to create even more meaningful youth engagement. Sometimes, an introduction can help! Over the past few years, the Partnership has been building strong relationships with statewide coalitions that share common goals in building equity to prevent intimate partner violence. During this Prevention Peer Network Webinar, representatives from the Alliance for Boys and Men of Color, California Work & Family Coalition, Essentials for Childhood Initiative, and the Commission on the Status of Women & Girls have been invited to join us. Each will discuss their work and approach to prevention, and offer ways to build alliances with their members.

At the end of the webinar, guests will get a sneak peak of TDVAPM artwork by Anastasia Senavsky—the talented youth graphic designer who was selected to create our Youth in the Lead visual campaign elements! We will also provide a walkthrough of our new prevention webpage, which contains real stories of successes, challenges, and fabulous flops from preventionists across the state!

Presenters: 

Jessica Merrill

Jessica is the Communications Manager at the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (the Partnership). Her goal is to create a rich, engaging dialogue across California to increase knowledge of domestic violence as a public health crisis–and to promote comprehensive solutions that everyone can participate in. By providing communications tools to the Partnership’s member programs and all Californians, she works to shift social norms that contribute to domestic violence through social and traditional media advocacy.
 

Alejandra Aguilar
Alejandra is leading the Statewide Prevention Program at the Partnership, working to strengthen prevention efforts across California. For over 15 years, whether it be in her role as school counselor, advocate, or preventionist, Alejandra has developed culturally humble and trauma-informed prevention & education resources in both English & Spanish. Throughout her work, Alejandra has used her voice to speak up about the relationship between abuse and oppression, the interconnectedness of all social justice efforts, and the need for service providers to acknowledge the diversity of lived experiences, recognizing that there is no “one size fits all” strategy for prevention or intervention.
