Dear Friend,
The California Partnership to End Domestic Violence (CPEDV) needs your support. In the two years since the successful merger of the California Alliance Against Domestic Violence (CAADV) and the Statewide California Coalition for Battered Women (SCCBW), our State Domestic Violence Coalition has grown at a pace that has exceeded all expectations. As of this date we have close to 200 organizational and individual members, which means we’ve more than doubled in size since we opened our doors in 2006.
In 1970, there was no such thing as a shelter for battered women in California. Advocates were sheltering battered women in their own homes and working out of the trunks of their cars to provide assistance to women seeking safety from their batterers. Today there are over 200 shelter and service programs forming a statewide movement based on the belief that women and their children are entitled to a safe home free from violence and the threat of violence.
While we have made great strides in the past thirty years, there is still much work to do. In 2006, California law enforcement received 176,299 domestic violence calls, and sadly, 141 Californians lost their lives to intimate partner violence. Given the continued prevalence of domestic violence, CPEDV’s services are needed now more than ever. Our agency and its members are working hard to serve the pressing needs of California’s domestic violence victims and survivors seeking refuge and services in our emergency shelters.
Today, CPEDV continues to serve as California’s Policy and Technical Assistance and Training Center for the domestic violence field. During the 25 year history of our predecessor organizations and until the present, we have successfully passed over 100 pieces of legislation to ensure safety and justice for domestic violence victims and their children. We have trained thousands of tireless advocates seeking social justice and an end to violence.
The California Partnership’s mission is clear: we must give vital support to our state’s domestic violence service providers, while also working to educate California’s legislators, social service agencies, law enforcement, judicial systems, the media and the public. If we are to fulfill this mission, we need your active involvement and support. It will take each and every one of us to end abuse in our homes and in our communities. In order for CPEDV to continue providing the high level of professional support and policy advocacy that California’s domestic violence victims and their families deserve, it is imperative that we raise the necessary funds to support this work.
As you make your choices about which causes to support, please consider giving to the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence. Your financial support is critical in our ongoing work to eliminate domestic violence in California. Please send us your tax-deductible contribution today. Your gift will be acknowledged in Coalition Current, our quarterly newsletter, and on our web site: www.cpedv.org. (You may also request that your donation remain anonymous.)
You may donate online through PayPal, by clicking HERE. Checks and money orders should be made payable to CPEDV, and mailed to: California Partnership to End Domestic Violence, PO Box 1798, Sacramento, CA 95812.
We thank you in advance for joining us in our work to ensure safety and justice for battered women and their children. Together we can realize our vision of a California free from domestic violence. Our partnership begins today.
Yours Sincerely,

Marivic Mabanag
Executive Director
