After attaining her B.A. in Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley in 1991, she began working with underrepresented populations in the Bay Area.Upon graduation from U.C. Berkeley, Michell was voted the recipient of the Louise Patterson African American Female Graduate of the Year for her social services work on campus and in the Bay Area community. After a decade of developing and conducting trainings for grass root organizations in the Bay Area, she went back to graduate school and received her M.A. in Counseling Psychology, Magna Cum Laude, from John F. Kennedy University in Pleasant Hill in 2004. Michell then went on to work with various non-profits in the Bay Area and then Sacramento in the areas of domestic violence, community organizing and mental health services.
