Since graduating from University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law (McGeorge) in 2015, Eric Riviera-Jurado has devoted himself to community organizing, advocacy, and legal services. Mr. Riviera-Jurado is a staff attorney at WEAVE (Women Escaping A Violent Environment) Inc. in Sacramento, California. His duties include providing document assistance, consultation, limited, and full scope direct representation services to victims of domestic and sexual violence in all areas of family law. He also brings additional experience in a wide range of legal subjects affecting victims of domestic and family violence. These include landlord-tenant law, public benefits, and criminal record expunging. Outside of the courtroom, Mr. Riviera-Jurado has worked to advance affordable medical coverage and much-needed services to undocumented Californians as a Health Advocate for the California Rural Legal Assistance Foundation (CRLAF). Mr. Riviera-Jurado’s interest in public policy development began early in his professional career. He received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from California State University at Sacramento (CSUS) in government/ political science. In addition to a juris doctorate, Mr. Riviera-Jurado has also earned a specialized Certificate in Public Law and Policy from McGeorge. Before pursuing law, he worked as a legislative aide to Assemblymember Anna M. Caballero and as a District staff intern for former-Senator Darrell Steinberg. He has had the opportunity to research and shepard several bills through the legislative process, including some which became law. Eric Riviera-Jurado is excited to be a part of the Public Policy Advisory Committee and become intimately involved in legislative language drafting and testifying in front of legislative committees.
