Demand Respect for Dr. Blasey Ford and All Survivors

Post

Your Senators Must Hear From You NOW

 Dear members, advocates, and allies,

Last week, the National Task Force to End Sexual and Domestic Violence (NTF) sent a letter to Senate Leadership expressing grave concerns about their unwillingness to engage in a process that upholds the dignity and well-being of a person who has come forward to report that she was a victim of sexual assault.

Instead of taking this moment to demonstrate the great progress we’ve made as a country in response to gender-based violence, Senate Leadership has taken us back 25 years, as if the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) never existed.
We must demand a fair process that treats Professor Blasey Ford far better than the derision, scorn, and humiliation to which Professor Hill was subjected 27 years ago. And so far, this process has been anything but fair.

Call your Senators and tell them:

“Advocates are watching how the Senate responds to sexual assault. We call on the Senate to stand with survivors with their actions on the Kavanaugh hearing by:

1) Consulting experts on sexual assault and trauma to make sure the process is fair.
2) Conducting a comprehensive bipartisan investigation.
3) Adhering to basic tenets of a trauma-informed approach.”

Senator Dianne Feinstein
(202) 224-3841

Senator Kamala Harris
(202) 224-3553

No fair investigation begins with attacking and trying to discredit the alleged victim. She is NOT on trial. She is not alleged to have done anything wrong. She is a person with important information about a man to whom the Senate is about to offer a lifetime appointment on our nation’s highest court.
Tell your Senators that the process can’t be rushed, survivors are watching, and this is the exact wrong time to turn your back on them!
