| ACTION ALERT: SB 2084 Urge Governor to Sign Domestic Violence Shelter Bill |
||||
| August 31, 2006 In 1977, SB 91 (Presley) enacted the Domestic Violence Center Act, which provided funding from marriage license fees to promote the establishment and development of shelters for victims of domestic violence. However, recent years have seen the growing trend of allocation of funding from marriage license fees to non-shelter based domestic violence programs. AB 2084 specifies that funding from marriage license fees would only be used for shelter based domestic violence programs. This will ensure the sustenance of domestic violence shelters which are the essential safety nets for domestic violence victims. AB 2084 has passed the legislature and is now on the Governor's desk. Please send him a letter urging him to sign the bill. Below is a sample support letter that you can use. You can fax the letter below to the Governor at (916) 445-4633. Thank you for your support.
