VAWA Housing Protections Webinar

Policy event

This webinar will cover federal, including the VAWA 2013 HUD expansion, and California state laws that provide important protections for survivors of domestic violence who seek to access or maintain rental housing in California. The webinar will feature housing scenarios that arise for survivors, including obstacles posed by landlords in the admissions process; evictions due to domestic violence; and remedies to enable safety such as early lease terminations, lock changes, lease bifurcations, and emergency transfers. The presenters will address each scenario by examining various federal and state housing laws and policies that provide specific safeguards for survivors. In addition, the panelists will share strategies on how to work with housing providers. Advocates will be able to ask the presenters questions.
